These are particular type of Oriental rugs that are woven without a pile, manufactured by nomads in Persia, Afghanistan or India. They have geometric patterns and rich in colours but also very soft and soothing to the eyes. The colouring of the yarn is done using natural plants and  minerals that contribute towards natural, beautiful colours. These handmade rugs have often no back or front surface and it can be used on both sides

The difference between a kilim and a rug or a pile rug is that whereas the design visible on the kilim is made by interweaving the variously coloured wefts and warps, thus creating what is known as a flat weave, in a pile rug individual short strands of different colour, usually of wool, are knotted onto the warps and held together by pressing the wefts tightly against each other.

In this case the whole design is made by these separately knotted strands which form the pile, and the patterns become clearly visible after any excessive lengths of the knotted materials are shorn off to create a level surface

Kilims can be used as floor coverings, hangings, bench or divan covering, cushion covers etc., etc. the methods in can be used in is various, thus making it an ideal choice for creative ideas.
