Handmade Kilims

We stock a spectacular collection of contemporary rug designs, from simple harmonious textures to a scene stealing splash of colour and pattern. This is a small selection of our contemporary rugs but we stock a larger selection in our Guildford Rug Showroom.

Afghan Chobi Kilims

Chobi kilims are particular types of Oriental rugs that are woven without a pile, manufactured by nomads in Persian and Afghanistan.

They have geometric patterns and rich in colours but also very soft and soothing to the eyes. The colouring of the yarn is done using natural plants and minerals that contribute towards natural, beautiful colours. These rugs have often no back or front surface and it can be used on both sides.

Afghan Natural Kilims

A nature intended – The beauty of raw wool inspires each natural Kilim we create, crafted using undyed wool of varying hues in order to celebrate this incredible natural material’s true colours. As well as being attractive to the eye, undyed wool is also kind to our environment, using less water during production and no chemical dyes.

This new style of natural kilim rugs are proving to be very popular among the minimalistic rooms and some that do not necessarily require any more drama as they already have enough going on, this is when these natural flat woven rugs come in.

Maimana Kilims

Maimana kilims are particular type of Oriental rugs that are woven without a pile, manufactured by nomads in Afghanistan. They have geometric patterns and rich in colours specially dark colours such as red, black, orange and blue.

Afghan Maimana kilims are a specific type of kilim rug that originates from the Maimana region in northern Afghanistan. Maimana is renowned for its long-standing tradition of kilim weaving, and the rugs produced in this region have distinct characteristics that set them apart.

Afghan vintage Kilims are exquisite handwoven carpets that originate from Afghanistan, a country known for its rich tradition of carpet weaving. These rugs are crafted by skilled artisans using age-old techniques that have been passed down through generations.

Vintage kilim rugs are captivating woven textiles that originate from Afghanistan, showcasing the region’s rich heritage of kilim weaving. Kilims are flat-woven rugs, characterised by their distinct lack of pile. They are created using a technique called ‘slit-weave,’ where the weft yarns are tightly woven through the warp yarns, resulting in a flat and reversible surface.
